I am fond of watching this competition on TV called The Voice. What is unique about this singing competition is the blind audition. During the audition, the judges can’t see the face of the one singing instead they only hear their voice, therefore they judge an individual based only on the quality of their voice they are looking for. What good about it is that, all individuals who have talent in singing despite of their looks will be given a chance to achieve and fulfill their dream to be a singer. That is why it is entitled “The Voice”.
Then I realized God has also his way of judging a person. This is shown when God sent Samuel to look for a king and suddenly he saw Eliab and thought he is the God’s anointed. But God told Samuel “Looks aren’t everything. Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature, I’ve already eliminated him. God judges the person differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart. – 1 Samuel 16:7(The message)
God is not impress by how a person looks, how he / she dresses, how expensive their bags and clothes are instead he looks on what is in our hearts. He looks on what kind of person we are. He looks on the content of our hearts. Is it full of anger, hatred? Or is it full of love? No matter how we mask our physical appearance with make-up, expensive clothes to appear beautiful if our heart is torn and broken God can see it. Just like how the judges in The Voice prioritize that specific quality of voice a singer should have, God prioritize our hearts more than anything. His criterion is the content of our hearts. That is why God chose David to be a king.
God sees beyond what man could see.
